Although PVC has a higher insulating capacity, Livo’s aluminum windows are technically improved to create a break in the thermal bridge, with similar levels of thermal efficiency when compared to PVC.

Aluminum windows are more durable and offer more possibilities for customization, including minimalist structures with more natural light, ideal for large windows. On the other hand, PVC tends to be less expensive, while at the same time offering very high levels of thermal and acoustic insulation.

Depending on the number of windows involved, the duration of the process can vary. Generally, this process takes between four hours to an entire day.

Efficient windows may be eligible for public support. There are two relevant programs:

• The Programa de Apoio a Edifícios mais Sustentáveis (Support Program for More Sustainable Buildings – currently awaiting the opening of a new application phase) aims to reimburse part of the investments made by owners in improving the energy efficiency of their houses and buildings. To be eligible, the equipment and materials used in the investment must meet energy efficiency requirements equal to or greater than A+. This program covers houses, apartments and buildings. The financial support for efficient class A+ windows covers 85% of the replacement of windows – up to a limit of €2,000 in Lisbon and Porto districts, and €2,200 in the rest of the country (according to the conditions of the latest call for applications).
• The Vale Eficiência Program aims to mitigate energy poverty in the houses of economically vulnerable families. Beneficiaries of the social electricity tariff (TSEE) can apply for a voucher worth €1,300 plus VAT, which can be used to purchase services, materials or equipment that improves the energy efficiency of their homes. It is important to note that the applicant must be the owner of the house and cannot have already benefited from the program.
